Spring Quarter March 2010 - May 2010
All Sunday School classes begin at 9:30 am.
Senior Adult - Sanctuary
Greg Smith
We use the David C. Cook comprehensive Bible Study.
The three units in this quarter explore teachings on community through the Old Testament books of Jonah and Ruth, and through the teachings of Jesus and the early church. The coming together of faithful people in response to God’s call and how they decided with God’s help to relate to one another becomes the focus. Unit 1 studies Jonah and Ruth, focusing on Jonah’s mission to Nineveh and Ruth’s need to be accepted in her new community. Unit 2 studies teachings of Jesus on light, love, connectedness, and God’s invitation to join His great banquet. Unit 3 studies Colossians, Philemon, and Jude on faithfulness to the church community, how it must be welcoming, and how it avoids heresy.
Christian Workers - Room 21
Betty Morrison & Bill Stewart
Acts Part 1, chapters 1-12, was started in the fall 09 quarter. What was originally intended for a 12 week quarter has turned into a more in depth discussion of the early church and how we should embrace the character and commitment of these early lay leaders. This study will continue until we have finished the first 12 chapters and then we will move into a curriculum centered on discipleship; living out His call to the Church.
Get in the Word – Room 22
Anita Kipe assisted by Jeff Smith
In December we are going to take a close look at the lives of Mary and Joseph and the birth of Jesus. In January we will learn ways to study the Bible and then follow with a study of anger and how we as Christians should handle anger/frustration. We usually have home study during the week, ready for discussion on Sunday morning.
Faith Builders – Fellowship Hall
Ray Kauffman & Steve Geesaman
We will be continuing our study on the book “A Christian Attitude Toward Attitudes.” This book covers what is an attitude-and where does it come from? Is a Christian attitude something different? Can a Christian have a bad attitude and really be a Christian? If so, what's the difference between a lousy attitude and a sin? We will study the biblical insights with a strong dose of common sense to guide through questions and issues that touch all relationships. After we finish this book we will be using an email service called “The Wired Word”. There are weekly lessons tying current event happenings into scripture and providing starters for discussion.
Truth Seekers – 3rd Floor
Brian McDowell & Barrie Crawford
We will be studying, “The Power of a Praying Parent” by Stormie Omartian. Being a perfect parent doesn't matter. Being a praying parent does. Why leave your child's life to chance when you can give it to God? Learn how to turn to the Father and place every detail of your child's life in His loving and capable hands: safety, character development, peer pressure, school, marriage, friends, relationship with God, family relationships, adolescence, and career choices. Whether your child is three or thirty-three, it's never too late to discover the joy that comes from being a part of God's work in your child's life.
Young Adults - Room 24
Grant Benedict
We are currently studying a book called "Discipleship - The Growing Christian's Lifestyle" by James & Martha Reapsome. This is a book in the Fisherman Bible Study guides series. In a culture focused on success and individuality, we see many people desperately seeking someone or something to follow that will give their lives meaning. Who we follow reveals a lot about who we are and who we want to be. We are called to be true followers – true disciples – of Jesus in our daily lives. Through thoughtful study of several key New Testament passages, Discipleship: The Growing Christian’s Lifestyle offers new discoveries from Scripture that will help you live out God’s call to follow him.
