Lessons From Moses:
Between God and People
Exodus 16:1 – 5 (p. 51); 18:17 – 23(p.53)
Trapped Between God and Others
God has expectations
People have expectation
There is pressure to please others
Opposition rarely completely disappears
It is critical to always go to God with this burden (17:4)
These People
Followed a cycle that led to complaining (16:2)
Are their complaints legitimate?
God would not have redeemed them and left them die
It was a struggle for them to be totally dependent on God
To do what they were instructed to do (16:4)
Waiting on the Lord should be a way of live
Beware of preferences and expectation
Unmet expectations can lead to discontent
Embrace change
Make God our stability
Moses The Leader
Moses was a follower first
Even Moses suffered consequences for disobedience (Numbers 20:12)
Willing to follow advice of others (Exodus 18)
The people’s representative ( 18:9)
He would go to God on their behalf (Numbers 14)
Mediator between men (18:15 – 23)
His advice was based on God’s will (18:19 – 20)
Followed for the benefit of all
When between God and men… Depend on and follow God – it’s best for you and others.
