Lessons From Moses:
Between God and People

  1. God has expectations
  2. People have expectation
  3. There is pressure to please others
  4. Opposition rarely completely disappears
  5. It is critical to always go to God with this burden  (17:4)

These People

  1. Followed a cycle that led to complaining (16:2)
  2. Are their complaints legitimate?
    1. God would not have redeemed them and left them die
  3. It was a struggle for them to be totally dependent on God
    1. To do what they were instructed to do (16:4)
  4. Waiting on the Lord should be a way of live
  5. Beware of preferences and expectation
    1. Unmet expectations can lead to discontent
  6. Embrace change
    1. Make God our stability

Moses The Leader

  1. Moses was a follower first
    1. Even Moses suffered consequences for disobedience (Numbers  20:12)
    2. Willing  to follow advice of others (Exodus 18)
    3. The people’s representative ( 18:9)
    4. He would go to God on their behalf (Numbers 14)
    5. Mediator between men (18:15 – 23)
      1. His advice was based on God’s will (18:19 – 20)
    6. Followed for the benefit of all

When between God and men…
Depend on and follow God – it’s best for you and others.

Going Deeper

  • How do you typically face uncertainty?  How can total dependence on God change that?
  • How can God’s faithfulness have a positive effect on your expectations?
  • What does it mean to you to be God’s representative to those around you?  This week focus on how following God can help you to have a positive influence on those around you.
  • Read Exodus 19 & 20 for October 10.
