Understand Each Other.
“During that long period,” Exodus 2:23a (*See Acts 7:23-30)

“Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives” 1 Peter 3:7a

  • Take time to really get to know each other
  • Make it a point to listen to each other

“You can hear an awful lot by just listening.” –Yoggi Berra

Keep Your Commitments.
“Jethro sent word to him, ‘I, your father-in-law Jethro, am coming to you with your wife and her two sons.’” Verse 6

“When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow. It is better not to vow than to make a vow and not fulfill it.” Ecclesiastes 5:4-5

  • Commitments build trust
  • Commitments will cost you (wedding vows, attendance at events, etc…)

Place Value on their lives through Devotion.
“So Moses went out to meet his father-in-law and bowed down and kissed him. They greeted each other and then went into the tent.” Verse 7

“Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said.” Verse 25

“Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.” Romans 12:10

  • Honor each other’s time.
  • Honor each other’s privacy.

Offer Encouraging Advice.
“’Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God be with you.’” Verse 19a

“’If you do this and God so commands, you will be able to stand the strain, and all these people will go home satisfied.’” Verse 23

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up”
1 Thessalonians 5:11a
