  • Level 2 – Invited people to think
  • Level 3 – Attracted the serious

Why end with this parable?

  • Brings us back to hearing and applying (v. 24)
  • Our goal: Respond to the punch of the parables
  • A challenge to focus on discipleship
  • The “Sermon on the Mount” was for His disciples.

Building material of our lives

  • Created in the Image of God
  • Fallen Nature
  • Environment
  • DNA
  • Personality
  • None of these can truly serve as a solid foundation
  • How much more will Jesus make a difference?

Becoming what God wants

  • Recognize the faulty building material
  • Blatant disobedience
  • We can’t pretend and get the desired results
  • Living under the authority of Jesus (v. 28, 29)
  • His words carry weight
  • The Word became flesh (John 1:14)
  • A true disciple gives Jesus authority over his/her life
  • The beginning of wisdom is obedience

Know how to build our lives

  • Jesus Christ - the foundation, must always be the foundation
  • What parts of our lives clearly need changed by the words of Jesus?
  • Personality
  • Nature
  • Environment
  • Experiences
