How Much is it worth?
Matthew 13:44 – 50 (p. 691 – 692)

Background

• The hidden treasure (v. 44)
• A peasant working a field
• Sacrifice for something of value

• A pearl of great value (v. 45-46)
• A man searching for pearls
• Sacrifice for something of value

• The unintentional and intentional search both lead to something of value

The Kingdom of Heaven

• Recognizing and accepting the rule of Christ

• The division (v. 47 – 50)
• We either belong or we don’t
• A decision must be made

• The physical reality of that kingdom is yet to come

• The value is in all God has for those who are His both now and for eternity

Valuable because of…

• A need
• We need God!
• He gives and sustains life (Acts 17:28)

• We need Christ for abundant and eternal life (John 11:25 – 26)

• The accessibility
• The fact that we must believe and receive Jesus Christ adds to the value (Matthew 7:13 – 14)

• The giver
• Identify God as our Father
• We are treasured

Signs that we value something

• Joy not a burden
• We know joy
• Pleasure
• Satisfaction
• Security and acceptance
• Contentment

• Willingness to sacrifice
• Joy is a motivation for sacrifice

• Share the news with others
• too good to keep to ourselves
