January 10, 2010 - "Bold Prayer "

Sermon Outline

Bold Prayer
Luke 11:5-13 (p.735)

The Premise of Prayer

  • We need God
  • Prayer is more than talking to God like He is a friend
  • A friend listens and consoles - God does that too
  • A friend’s resources and abilities are limited
  • God can do the impossible

Bold Prayer

  • Our part
  • Persistence
  • It shows our dependence and desperation for God
  • Desperation is hard to acknowledge
  • “Taste and see that the LORD is good.” (Psalm 34:8)

God is Ready to Answer Our Prayers (v. 9 – 13)

  • Two things we can count on:
  • God answers prayer
  • God’s answers are right and good
  • The Spirit dwelling within us is an awesome gift (v.13)
  • there is a closeness and intimacy because of the Holy Spirit

Prayer Changes Me

  • Brings salvation
  • Teaches patience
  • Gives a foundation in an uncertain world
  • Builds our faith
  • Each answered prayer should build our confidence in God
  • Changes our attitude
  • Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22,23)

Persistence Shows Our Faithfulness

  • How long have you been praying?
  • For a loved ones salvation
  • To an answer for a decision
  • For wisdom
  • For patience
  • For someone who understands
  • For ____________________
  • Now is not the time to stop!
