Carrying Burden’s Plus
Galatians 6: 1- 10 (p. 826)
Personal Responsibility
Doing good to others (v.10)
A new attitude
Legalistic barrier
The outward appearance was more important than the heart
The power of freedom
Freedom empowers us to help others
Carrying Burdens
Finding compassion
Being religious does not automatically mean that we are compassionate
Christ brings love and compassion to life
The balance between personal righteousness and compassion
Self-righteousness
A form of protection against sin
Anything goes
Ignoring sin
In Christ
We are given his righteousness
We see the ugliness and destruction that sin brings
The Law of Christ
The love of Christ makes us sensitive to the burdens of others
Compassion can not be taught it has to be caught
Burdens
Burden of being overwhelmed by sin (v.1)
“Caught by sin”
Christ wants to restore us
A privilege to be a part of the restoration
Those led by the Spirit
Heavy Burdens (v.2)
In general it could be any troubles or problems
In this context it is likely spiritual matters
Our Response
Be as concerned for others
Carry burdens by…
Praying
Sharing truth
Asking tough questions
Sharing hope
Sharing encouragement
Realizing our own vulnerability (v.3)
Burden of Our Own Responsibility (v.5)
The light burden (Matthew 11: 28 – 30)
Faithfulness and obedience is always our personal responsibility
Evaluate our faithfulness to Christ by obedience to His expectations
When we ignore these responsibilities we find the burden too big
Keep our eyes on Christ and we will find that carrying our burdens and helping others carry their heavy burdens is not only doable but it fulfills the “Law of Christ”
