September 13, 2009 - "Am I for God"

Sermon Outline

Asking the right question: Am I for God?
Joshua 5:13 – 15; 24:14 - 15

The Reality of God’s Presence

  • God is not distant
  • God will never leave us or forsake us
  • Boldness & courage are possible (Joshua 1:6-7)
  • Devotion to the Lord is essential
  • Half-hearted commitments can be dangerous
  • Our Goal: evaluate our devotion
  • Are we on the Lord’s side?

Do not look to the majority

  • Who else is following God is not important
  • We invite others because we are absolutely convinced that God is God
  • The majority can be mislead (Numbers 13 & 14)
  • Especially in matters of faith and truth
  • Don’t let the crowd change the question

Let God take the lead

  • Don’t look for God to join us
  • We are not in charge
  • Comforting
  • Restrictive
  • We don’t know the bigger picture
  • We must follow in faith

God’s plans are right for us

  • God has already designed the plan
  • God is looking for a yes or no answer
  • We can not determine God’s will by the easy or  sensible path
  • Circumstances are not a good measure of God’s will
  • God is for us more than we are for ourselves (Jeremiah 29:11)
  • We often choose destructive plans

    Am I for God today?

With each decision we make we are either following the Commander of the Army of the Lord or not!
