God Does Not Look The Other Way
Joel 2:11 - 17

Old Testament Prophets

  • Messengers or a “mouthpiece” for God
  • Proclaimed…
  • Positive and negative
  • messages
  • Who God is and
  • His promises
  • Israel’s responsibilities

Disobedience

  • Expectations of the relationship
  • We know the boundaries
  • Testing God
  • Ignoring the boundaries
  • Want to be like everyone else
  • God can not ignore sin

The Day of the Lord (2:11)

  • An expression of God’s justice
  • It must be right
  • Warnings
  • This act of judgment was meant to bring repentance
  • Judgment or not
  • Consider the New Covenant
  • Choices in brokenness
  • Harden our hearts
  • Let God pick up the pieces (2 Chronicles 7:13,14)

Purification and Restoration

  • Even now (2:12)
  • Can not say we’ve gone too far
  • God’s alternative – repent
  • Start being God’s children
  • He is your God (2:13)
  • God responds to repentance
  • A broken and contrite heart has always been necessary for forgiveness of sin (Psalm 51:17)
  • We appeal to God’s mercy not demand it

God Is…

  • Gracious and compassionate
  • Even when we bring about our own suffering
  • Slow to anger
  • His wrath is not spontaneous
  • Abounding in love
  • He does not hide His love
  • These qualities put judgment in perspective

Where Is Your God?

  • He is right here trying to get our attention.
  • He longs to provide for and bless His people that the world may see that he is God.

Where are His people?
